Thomas drops shot as McIlroy endures testing morning

20 julio 2018 10:42

Justin Thomas dropped a shot as Rory McIlroy did some impressive scrambling early on in round two at The Open.

World number two Thomas ended the first 18 holes two under par but missed a short putt on the fourth to fall four off the lead.

McIlroy was three behind overnight leader Kevin Kisner, not due to tee off until 12:53 (local time), through five in the rain at Carnoustie.

Winner of the Claret Jug at Royal Liverpool in 2014, some excellent work from the edge of the green was required on multiple occasions from McIlroy as he attempted to build on his opening 69.

Ryan Moore made an early move to within a stroke of Kisner, the American going to four under with a birdie at the third and making six successive pars thereafter.

However, 2016 champion Henrik Stenson fell to two over through seven, dropping shots on three of those holes.
