Slater charged, set to miss Grand Final

Melbourne Storm star Billy Slater is in danger of missing the NRL Grand Final after being charged with a grade-one shoulder charge.

Slater knocked Sosaia Feki into touch when the Cronulla Sharks flyer was about to go over for a try in the first half of the Storm's 22-6 Preliminary Final win on Friday.

The 35-year-old Australia great scored two tries in his final match at AAMI Park, but he may miss the decider – and his career could be over – after being hit with a ban by the match review committee.

The Storm confirmed they would contest the charge.

"The NRL Judiciary has charged Billy Slater with a grade-one shoulder charge," the club said in a statement.

"The incident occurred in the first half of Friday night's Preliminary Final win over Cronulla.

"An early plea would mean Slater would receive a one-week suspension, however, the club can confirm it will contest the charge and is now awaiting confirmation from the NRL around details regarding the judiciary hearing."

Slater described the incident as an "unfortunate collision" in the post-match, with Melbourne set to potentially be without their full-back for the decider at ANZ Stadium on September 30.

Melbourne will face either the Sydney Roosters or South Sydney Rabbitohs in the Grand Final.
