Frizell suffers Origin scare, Addo-Carr at the double for Storm

Tyson Frizell's involvement for New South Wales in their State of Origin opener was thrown into doubt after he suffered a head injury in NRL action.

Playing ahead of the announcement of the Blues' squad on Sunday, Frizell departed early in St George Illawarra Dragons' 22-9 home defeat to Cronulla Sharks.

The Dragons forward made Brad Fittler's selection but will have to come through concussion protocol following a clash with Sharks winger Josh Dugan.

New South Wales had already seen Sydney Roosters half-back Luke Keary suffer a second concussion in the space of five weeks, ruling him out of contention for selection.

Frizell's blow was one of a number of injuries for the overmatched Dragons, with James Graham and Tim Lafai each sustaining ankle issues in the first half.

Cronulla took full advantage as Bronson Xerri, who had scored the first try after six minutes, completed his maiden NRL hat-trick in the second period.

Blayke Brailey also crossed for the Shark, with the Dragons' only try coming from Cameron McInnes nine minutes before half-time.

In the early game, Josh Addo-Carr scored a pair of tries as Melbourne Storm battled past strugglers Canterbury Bulldogs 28-6 on Sunday.

Addo-Carr showed just what he can offer to the Blues in a game that was otherwise low on quality at Belmore Sports Ground.

The winger contributed the only try of a poor first half with a stunning individual effort, before adding a second five minutes after the interval.

Sauaso Sue responded for the Bulldogs, but Cameron Smith kicked well and the Storm were comfortable even before late scores from Will Chambers and Nelson Asofa-Solomona.
