Reed on the charge as U.S. Open race hots up

17 junio 2018 20:57

Patrick Reed produced a birdie blitz at the beginning of his final round to race up the leaderboard at the U.S. Open.

The Masters champion closed the gap on the overnight leaders with a stunning start to his Sunday at Shinnecock Hills, picking up shots on his opening three holes.

However, the run came to an end when he missed a putt at the fourth, sliding his attempt wide to the right of the cup.

Still, his early surge pushed him to three over for the tournament, raising the possibility of Reed securing a second major in 2018.

Yet Brooks Koepka picked up shots at the second and third too, moving the defending champion to one over as he quickly made amends for a missed birdie putt on the opening hole.

Koepka started the day in a four-way tie for first place, level on three over with fellow Americans Dustin Johnson, Daniel Berger and Tony Finau.
