Fearless Kim had no doubts at Players

15 mayo 2017 04:34

Kim Si-woo insists he felt no nerves as he closed out the Players Championship, becoming the youngest winner in the tournament's history.

The South Korean, 21, claimed a three-shot victory at TPC Sawgrass on Sunday, finishing clear of Ian Poulter and Louis Oosthuizen.

Kim finished the event with nine consecutive pars, including at the famed 17th where so many players found trouble.

He two-putted from 45 feet for his par and said he never had any doubt approaching the hole, on his way to a second PGA Tour win.

"I wasn't nervous at all because I was leading that hole," he said.

"I just focused on the middle of the green, and I just hit the pitch, and I made it."

Kim became just the second player from South Korea to win the Players – joining K.J. Choi (2011).

He said the 46-year-old and 14-time major champion Tiger Woods were among his idols.

"When I was growing up and when I started playing golf, Tiger and K.J. Choi were my major role models," Kim said.

"But I think I would choose K.J. Choi because he's been a great golfer representing Korea, and I always wanted to be like him."
